What buyers see on the LatchPay checkout

A one-page checkout in the shape of Shopify’s: live prices, your shipping and tax, one discount code, card fields hosted by Whop.

The page

The LatchPay checkout is a one-page checkout in the shape of Shopify's own: contact, delivery, shipping method, payment and billing address on the left, the order summary with the discount code field on the right, and the store's logo or name in the header. It carries your store's branding (see Branding the checkout) and the buyer's language. LatchPay itself appears only as the small "Powered by LatchPay · charged through Whop" line in the footer, next to your Shopify policy links.

From cart to thank-you

  1. The buyer clicks Checkout on your store

The theme line hands the cart to LatchPay and the checkout opens on LatchPay's checkout address (checkout.latchpay.io).

  2. Contact and delivery

Email, then the address. A checkbox "Email me with news and offers" is a real control: ticking it subscribes the buyer on the Shopify customer record; leaving it unticked never changes an existing subscription.

  3. Shipping method

The rates for that address, quoted live from Shopify. Changing the address or the method re-quotes the totals.

  4. Payment

Card fields hosted by Whop, with Whop's small branding line under them, and a "Same as shipping address" billing choice.

  5. Pay now

The button shows the total. Under it: "Your card is charged by Whop; the order and its confirmation email come from {store}".

Prices, shipping, tax and discounts

  • Every total comes from one live Shopify quote of the cart; nothing is copied into Whop.
  • Shipping rates and tax are what your store charges for that address, taxes included or not as your store is set up.
  • One discount code per order, plus your automatic discounts. A rejected code is named as such in the summary.
  • The buyer pays in the Markets currency they were shopping in; the fee and the order's value in Shopify use your store currency.
  • When the buyer presses Pay now, LatchPay re-quotes one last time. If the total changed (a price edit, a code that expired), the checkout shows the new total and asks the buyer to confirm instead of charging the old one.

The card charge

Whop charges the card

The card is entered in Whop's hosted fields and charged on your Whop business. LatchPay never sees card numbers. Whop is the merchant of record, so the statement line starts with WHOP*. 3-D Secure, when the bank asks for it, runs in Whop's frame and returns to the checkout.

While the payment is being confirmed, Shopify holds the stock for the cart for 30 minutes, so two buyers cannot both pay for the last unit. Sessions themselves stay open for 24 hours; after that the buyer starts again from the cart.

After paying

When Whop confirms the payment, LatchPay creates the paid order in Shopify and sends the buyer to Shopify's order status page; Shopify sends its usual confirmation email. If that page is not ready within about 30 seconds, the buyer sees "Payment received, order confirmation follows by email" with a link back to your store. Declined cards and other failures show as a red banner above the section that caused them, in the buyer's language, and never navigate away.
